Smoant Karat Pod Review, The Best Looking Pod Device?
Smoant Karat Pod Review, The Best Looking Pod Device?
The Smoant Karat is an interesting device that reminds us, sometimes performance factors aren't the best way to judge a device. There’s a vast plethora of pod devices on the market right now and the performance gap between all those devices is not something that concerns most beginner vapers. At the end of the day, what's more important to you, looks or function?
That’s a question that’s driven many of my vape purchases over the years. Do I want a device that I can stomach looking at day in and day out with regular usage? Or do I want a device that can do absolutely every kind of vaping I want to throw at it?
This is the question that the Karat poses to vapers and I think by the end of this review you’ll be able to answer that question for yourself!
The Looks
This is where the Smoant Karat stands head and shoulders above the pod device crowd. With its diamond shaped chassis, complete with multiple faceted sides, it’s easy to see where the Karat gets its name from. Even the pod cartridge for the Karat comes with faceted edges to match where it meets the body of the device.
There’s a certain level of build quality that comes with these devices and the different colors they are available in are perfect for any vapers personal tastes. If I had to pick a pod device based on pure looks alone I think I’d be hard pressed to come up with a better looking device than the Smoant Karat. If you’re looking for the ultimate in classy looks check out the brushed gunmetal color they offer.
How it Works
For all of its fantastic looks you’d think the designers would’ve added some performance to match the high end chassis. But unfortunately you’d be wrong, the Karat is very underpowered compared to most of the pod devices in its market segment. It’s built with a 370mAh battery which is good for maybe 4-6 hours of moderate usage, definitely not a device you want to count on for all day vaping power.
Speaking of vaping power, you have to take some seriously long drags off of the Karat to get the same amount of vapor cloud that you would from something like a Drag Nano so it’s not exactly firing at high voltage. I believe the output is rated from 3.3 - 3.4V which, in case you don’t know anything about voltage outputs, is basically nothing.
The one redeeming factor to the Karat is its “quartz” coil pod. I’m not sure why they called it quartz though because the actual core is ceramic. Regardless of their questionable naming, the coil actually does a great job of providing flavorful puffs with nic salt E-liquid.
The Verdict
This is a tricky one for me, as much as I’d love to give the Karat the benefit of the doubt it just doesn’t have the power or the voltage to provide a great all day vaping experience. Honestly I think this is a device that’s built specifically for looks and, for what it's worth, they do a great job of that. So if you’re looking for a flashy device, with a gorgeous design and color scheme, check out the Smoant Karat Pod Device.
