THE INDESTRUCTIBLE BEAST
I had the chance to give the Aegis Legend a test-drive at a trade show a couple weeks back and was astounded with its performance. Micro-second firing, superb flavor production, handsome design, and an excellent hand feel are just some of the features that caught my notice. Some chipsets are more effective at balancing temperature heating, one aspect of a system that can make the flavor of your E-Liquid or juice taste better. You can tell that time and energy went into the configuration of the AS chipset, as the temperature graphs are extremely precise. I haven't experienced better flavor production on any mod under $100. A few YiHi and asMODus mods make my E-Liquid taste better, but those devices cost between $150-300 bucks, mainly because of the chipsets they include.
Today I want to go through the specific features of the Aegis Legend, talk about the Aero Mesh Tank that the kit comes with, rank pros and cons of the device, and finally provide readers with a link that they can use to purchase the device at a reduced price.
SHOCK PROOF, DUST PROOF, AND WATER-PROOF
The original Aegis mod was waterproof, and that feature was responsible for a lot of the device's success. Users found themselves able to take their hardware to the beach and rest it safely poolside. I've heard stories of mods getting fried from spilled coffee or soda because they were resting on a table at an unfortunate moment. The Aegis side-stepped that problem and those like it. If some liquid spilled onto the device—even if it was accidentally dropped into a puddle or toilet—all you had to do was dry it off and it was ready to work again.
The far-reaching effect of features such as this should not be underestimated. The Levi's Jean is the most successful pants clothing in history because it introduced never-before-seen durability; regular pants before it were too easily destroyed. Users of the Aegis are experiencing a similar shift in perception that Levi's customers had experienced before them. They are more expecting of high-quality safety measures that make their hardware tougher to break. The Levi's example posits that people have a natural tendency to adopt products that espouse superior longevity of use, and once these products are on the market, they almost never go away.
The original Aegis mod provided superior durability to its customers and the response for over a year has been overwhelmingly positive.
MIL STD 810G-516.6 Shock Resistance
The Aegis Legend features upgraded shock resistance from the original Aegis Mod. "MIL STD" stands for "military-grade standard," and this feature seems to be the real deal. In a video for product promotion, one of our buddies ran over the Aegis Legend with his BMW X5, leaving the device scratched but its functionality uncompromised. He picked up the vape afterward and started going to town.
On the official GeekVape Technology Co. website, the Aegis Legend is advertised as accident-proof when dropped at a height not exceeding 1 meter. I would expect that given the military-grade shock resistance rating, a height exceeding one meter would not be an issue. If a dude can roll over the device with a two-ton machine, it can probably take a larger fall. The reason that GeekVape chose to advertise "1 meter" is because usually the device will have batteries installed. The batteries themselves can take a beating from being dropped, so GeekVape doesn't want people dropping them off buildings where the batteries could really break.
For most of the time though, I'd expect that the mod could take a drop from a table or hand with no problems ensuing. Regular mods I've had have been dropped from a table and lived to see another day.
IP67 Dust Resistance
IP67 is a rating attributed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). IP stands for International Protection and the digits afterward correspond to the types of materials the product is safe to withstand. IP6 is dust, dirt, and sand resistant, meaning "no ingress of dust, etc" should occur. IP67 ensures that no "ingress of water in a harmful quantity shall occur when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 meter of submersion."
The IP67 resistance rating on the Aegis Legend means that its an exceptionally clean device. Many mods have the tendency to accrue dust in their crevices and crannies, especially around or inside the battery door. There should be no worry about this kind of wear with the Aegis Legend, it should stay clean and sleek, only requiring a wipe-down to restore its former glory.
IP67 Water Resistance
The IP67 Water Resistance feature was briefly mentioned above. Aegis Legend users will be able to safely bring their hardware to the beach or the swimming pool, and if accidents do occur like spillage, there's no worry about frying your system.
The Aegis Legend will be able to sit in water at a depth not exceeding 1 meter for a good amount of time. Obviously you won't want to soak your machine in a bucket of water, but if it falls in the pool, fuck it, go grab it, and it should be fine.
If your buddies are roughing around and wrestle you into a pool with your mod in your pocket, tell them they broke it, and now you've got two.
6-MATERIAL CONSTRUCTION
When I tested the Aegis Legend at the trade show two weeks ago, one of the most attractive features of the device was its ergonomic and comfortable hand feel. The materials used in the device to ensure durability are the same materials many manufacturers use to give their device a nice grip, weight, or texture.
Stainless steel, zinc, die-casting aluminum, carbon steel, LSR silicone, and leather are the materials used to construct the body of the Legend. The leather is the most attractive material by far and covers most of the back of the mod, where is where your hand mostly contacts the device. It feels high-quality and genuinely comfortable. Leather is a great material because its soft, clean, and highly durable. Definitely the material to use for a machine like this.
The LSR silicone covers most of the rest of the device. Unlike plastic LSR silicone has a higher-quality texture that gives it a sleeker feel like glass. Very nice. There's also die-casting aluminum on the side of the Legend that's fastened to the leather and silicone. This has the feel of hard metal and reflects light well.

^ Here's a quick description of the main features.
THE AERO MESH TANK
At the trade show I went to, they didn't have the Aero Mesh Tank on the mod—I think they were still working on the design. Everything I state in the following is pooled from sources close to the development of the product and what GeekVape is advertising on their website. Reassuringly, the two channels seem to agree on most things.
The Aero Mesh Tank is a sub-ohm atomizer with a 4mL default E-Juice capacity. It features a top-filling design for convenient refilling and adjustable bottom airflow slots.
The directed airflow system is well-built with direct channels funneling from two sides and the bottom of the atomizer up vertically through the coil rather than around. Flavor and cloud production are said to be superb. My friend close to the production of the Aero Mesh also says that the tank is rather durable itself. It's made out of hardened stainless steel and the Pyrex glass used is high-grade.
The Aegis Legend Kit comes with one of two Aero Mesh Tank colors—either the all black or black/orange. Bought separate from the mod, however, and the color options include Black, Black/Orange, Rainbow, and Stainless Steel.
PROS AND CONS
I'd like to make a quick pros and cons list of the Aegis Legend so readers can sum up the content I've discussed above. Sometimes pros and cons can be confusing, because some features like weight and design can be pros to some and cons to others, but I think this list will be agreeable and straightforward.
Pros:
- IP67 Water Resistance
- IP67 Dust Resistance
- MIL STD 810G-516.6 Shock Resistance
- Comfortable Hand Feel
- Inlaid Leather
- 5 Unique Color Patterns
- Advanced AS chipset
- Innovative Trigger-Switch Fire Button
- Upgraded 200W Maximum Output
Cons:
- No Hinged Top-Filling with The Aero Mesh Tank
- No 20700 Battery Compatibility
Unlike the original Aegis, the Legend will not be compatible with 20700 batteries, which is kind of a bummer seeing as how 20700 batteries last so long. And with the Aero Tank, the top-filling is a little more involved as the top cap must be screwed off to refill the E-Liquid reservoir.
Still, I am blown away by this device's positive features. 18650 batteries are by no means bad and the tank can be switched out with whatever you want, rebuildables most likely. The color patterns are unique, the chipset is fantastic, and the durability of this device is unmatched.
If I was forced to rate this device, I would rate it a solid 5/5 stars, and indeed I do recommend it. I have hopes that the manufacturers in the industry follow suit after the release of the Aegis Legend, and start making more durable devices. Waterproof is an excellent feature of any hardware and I pray to see more mods like this one.
For now, we're still some days away from seeing the actual release of the product, but I promise it's coming soon. So keep your eyes peeled for the official release, and as always, you can find the product on Eightvape.com for a guaranteed lowest price.
Thanks for reading.
